My Cheltenham Ante Post Portfolio

As longer-suffering readers will know, around this time each year I share my current Cheltenham Festival ante post bets. These include stakes and prices, non-runners, the lot. There's nothing to hide: some people bet more, some less, whatever.

Anyway, I hope it makes for vaguely interesting reading; and I hope that there are some winners to pay for most/all of the losers!

As you'd expect, there are some good-looking, some bad-looking, and some downright ugly (Buveur d'Air ten minutes before he's out for the season - ouch).

p.s. As requested by one reader, here is a link to the spreadsheet I use

Hi Matt, Thanks for this. I’m extremely envious of your 25’s on Goshen. I don’t suppose you could put up a download link for your spreadsheet template (or email) 😉

Tidy little spreadsheet, but having entered all my bets, the stakes section is all showing zero? Not sure why…

It’ll be a calculation thing in the stakes cell, Richard. Sure you’ll figure it out after you spend a couple of minutes on it.

Spreadsheet support is kind of beyond the scope of my duties, I think!

Yes…I was not quick enough for Goshan. However, what I am really envious of though is how someone as well known as Matt can still place bets with big bookmakers.

This place bets things is a fallacy in many cases.

I bet football, I follow no tipsters, I don’t follow the money.

If you can’t get bets on can you answer the above points about following tipsters and/or the market?

And I’m hardly well known. I’m just another username… I have lots of restricted accounts, but can still get on with 365, Hills, Coral and Sky. Most of my betting is with them.

Thanks for sharing that Matt! Just wondering if coronavirus were to result in a postponement or cancellation of the Cheltenham Festival (god forbid), what happens to Ante Post Bets? I assume if it is a postponement that ante post bets will be carried forward to whenever it is rescheduled, but does a cancellation mean we lose everything as punters? Cheers…

Cancellation would result in all stakes refunded. We might have problems with the rain but I’m simply not believing that Cheltenham will be called off because of coronavirus…

I’m surprised you manage to get so much on with the likes of Hills and Skybet. Don’t appear to have restrictions. What’s your secrets? Last time I looked I couldn’t get more than a fiver on with either. Other than that, a nice portfolio, a little light for Thursday but understandable.
